V. Balasubramanyam
He joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1965 after graduating from Rangoon University, where he was influenced by Marxian philosophy. Over his career, he held several significant positions, including Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, serving in Bangalore during the Emergency. He worked closely with prominent Chief Ministers such as Veerendra Patil, Devaraj Urs, Gundu Rao, and Ramakrishna Hegde, acting as Hegde's secretary for three years.
He has held numerous key positions in sericulture at both state level in Karnataka and with the central Silk Board. During his tenure he successfully secured World Bank Assistance for the development of sericulture, benefiting India as a whole and Karnataka in particular.
V. Balasubramanian, has made significant contributions to the development of the silk industry in India, particularly during his tenure in Karnataka. His work in this sector has been instrumental in transforming the silk industry into a more organized and profitable enterprise, with a focus on improving the livelihoods of silk farmers and enhancing the quality and reach of Indian silk in the global market.
Even in his later years, his dedication to the advancement of sericulture remains unwavering. Through the Silk Association of India, he actively engages with stakeholders, continually offering guidance and support to all those involved in the development of sericulture across the country.
